High-Density Irrigated Cork Oak

Traditional cork oak plantations in Portugal operate at low density — 50 trees per hectare — with long harvest cycles and minimal professional management. AIM Forest applies an institutional approach: 625 trees per hectare with efficient drip irrigation, accelerating growth and shortening harvest cycles from 9 to 6 years. The result is first cork extraction at year 8 instead of year 25, with dramatically higher yields per hectare. Our model generates approximately ten times the annual revenue of a traditional plantation in half the time.

How We Work

We analyse over 25 property leads per year across southern Portugal, selecting only those that meet rigorous due diligence criteria. We design and build water infrastructure, plant 625 cork oaks per hectare from certified nurseries, certify all forests through FSC and Verra VCS, and provide ongoing professional management including formation pruning, irrigation maintenance, pest monitoring, and fire prevention. Revenue is diversified across cork sales, Verra-certified carbon credits, and EU agricultural grants.
